In a competitive procurement conducted by Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division, Rockwell Collins was selected
to perform a significant modernization and performance upgrade to the suite of US Navy P-3 Orion Flight Simulators.
Under the Navy Training System 2000 omnibus program, this delivery order upgraded the Out-The-Window (OTW) visual image generators
and display systems; provided new database and modeling systems, and replaced simulators' main computational processing systems.
Under this contract, Rockwell Collins supplied state-of-the-art, commercial-off-the-shelf visual image generators, collimated
DOME visual displays, and a modern and supportable open-architecture computational system design.
The P-3 program is a multi-year contract including the development, production, and testing of 8 device upgrades. The modification
brings the latest technological advancements to P-3 crewmembers, and allows for the ease of future upgrades, reduced operating
and life-cycle costs improved capabilities for future enhancements to the training devices.
