IndiGo selects Rockwell Collins avionics, service for fleet of up to 100 aircraft
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 27, 2005) - IndiGo, a new low cost carrier based in New Delhi, India, has selected Rockwell Collins to provide avionics for its fleet
of Airbus A320 aircraft. Deliveries are set to begin in 2006. In addition, the airline signed a 12-year contract for Rockwell
Collins' Dispatch PlusSM maintenance program.
"The quality of the Rockwell Collins products and the convenience of the Dispatch Plus program proved to be the key differentiators
in this decision, especially in terms of the operating cost benefits to our operation," said IndiGo President and CEO Bruce
Ashby. "The all-inclusive nature of Dispatch Plus provides IndiGo with absolute certainty on our avionics maintenance costs
at competitive levels, 100 percent backed by Rockwell Collins. It's an approach that fits our business needs, and we look
forward to a long-lasting partnership."
"We're pleased to further expand our presence in India by providing a comprehensive avionics and service solution that meets
the requirements of IndiGo," said Kelly Ortberg, vice president and general manager, Air Transport Systems for Rockwell Collins.
"We look forward to a long and successful relationship."
The avionics package selected by IndiGo includes the WXR-2100 MultiScan Weather Radar, a fully automatic radar that reduces
pilot workload and enhances safety and passenger comfort by reducing unexpected turbulence encounters. MultiScan provides
optimal weather detection from the nose of the aircraft to 320 nautical miles.
Other Rockwell Collins equipment selected by IndiGo includes the ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, DME-900 Distance Measuring
Equipment, HFS 900 D High Frequency System, CPL-920D High Frequency Communications, VHF -920 Very High Frequency Transceiver,
VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Radio and AOC-900 Aircraft Operational Communications datalink.
The Dispatch Plus program will provide IndiGo Airlines with the ability to accurately manage its available seat mile cost
by providing asset inventory and component repairs, including Rockwell Collins reliability service bulletins, in a manageable
rate per hour in one consolidated monthly invoice.
"Rockwell Collins is well-positioned to provide the reliable support that IndiGo Airlines requires for its new aircraft fleet,"
said Kent Statler, senior vice president and general manager of Rockwell Collins Services. "This guaranteed performance contract
leverages the worldwide presence of Rockwell Collins and our proven reliability to establish a value model. We are honored
to launch our Dispatch Plus concept with IndiGo in India."
