Rockwell Collins selected to provide communications equipment for FEMA

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (August 10, 2005) - Rockwell Collins has been selected to provide high frequency radio equipment for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The equipment will be used for the FEMA National Radio System (FNARS), which provides essential emergency voice and data communications capabilities between federal, state and local governments during emergencies and disasters.

The contract, worth $21.5 million over the next five years, represents the first major order from FEMA in the homeland security sector for Rockwell Collins.

"For many years, Rockwell Collins has provided high quality HF radio equipment to our commercial and military customers. Those same capabilities will now be applied to aid homeland security communications," said Bruce King, vice president and general manager of Communications Systems for Rockwell Collins.

The FNARS upgrade will feature the Rockwell Collins URG-III product line - a state-of-the-art family of HF communications equipment featuring full remote control, Automatic Link Establishment and high-speed, single-tone data transmission. The contract was awarded by the Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center in Charleston, S.C.
