Rockwell Collins brings satellite TV to Air Force C-9C aircraft

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (July 21, 2004) - Recognizing the emerging military need to receive breaking world news, the U.S. Air Force has selected Rockwell Collins’ Tailwind 550 system to bring live satellite television into three C-9C special mission aircraft.

The Tailwind 550 system recently received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC), clearing the way for installation on the C-9C aircraft. The STC was awarded recently to L3 Communications Integrated Systems, who is the prime contractor.

“This is yet another example of how Rockwell Collins is leveraging technology across our government and commercial businesses to provide best value to our customers,” said Robert Chiusano, Rockwell Collins executive vice president and chief operating officer, commercial systems.

Tailwind 550 is a multi-regional satellite system that brings more than 450 television channels to aircraft when flying in the United States , Europe and the Middle East. Tailwind 550 is the only fuselage-mounted, three-region system on the market. Features include a lightweight, high-performance antenna that ensures clear reception on the ground and during virtually all phases of flight, including taxi, takeoff, landing, banking and climbing.

Rockwell Collins is a leader in the design, production and support of communications and aviation electronics solutions for government and commercial customers worldwide. Additional company information is available at www.rockwellcollins.com.
