Data Link Solutions Receives Additional Order for Low Volume Terminals
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (July 24, 2002) - BAE SYSTEMS/Rockwell Collins Data Link Solutions, L.L.C. (Data Link Solutions) has been awarded a $37.8 million delivery order
by the U.S. Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), San Diego, Calif. Under this delivery order, Data Link
Solutions (DLS) will deliver 133 Multifunctional Information Distribution System Low Volume Terminals (MIDS LVT 1) plus spare
terminals and shop replaceable units for use on various U.S. military airborne platforms and to meet foreign military sales
requirements.
This award represents the third production lot of MIDS terminals awarded to DLS. Delivery of the Lot 3 terminals is scheduled
to begin in May 2003 and be completed in April 2004. The first DLS production lot of 45 LVT 1 terminals was completed ahead
of schedule. Delivery of Production Lot 2 for 134 LVT 1 terminals will begin later this month.
The MIDS LVT provides secure, high-capacity, jam resistant, digital data and voice communications capability for U.S. Navy,
U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army platforms. The MIDS LVT represents the latest generation of Link-16 equipment incorporating
secure data and voice into a single, small, affordable and highly reliable unit.
Link 16 provides real-time, jam resistant secure transfer of combat data, voice and relative navigation information between
widely dispersed battle elements. Participants gain situational awareness by exchanging digital data over a common communication
link that is continuously and automatically updated in real time, reducing the chance of fratricide, duplicate assignments
or missed targets. Each participant in the communication link is able to electronically see the battle space, including assigned
targets or threats.
