Rockwell Collins Receives Environmental Protection Agency Award
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 22, 2002) - Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) received an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2002 Pollution Prevention Award for Environmental
Excellence from Region 7 last month in Kansas City, Mo. Rockwell Collins was one of two companies to receive the award in
the category Environmentally Preferable Products and Services. Rockwell Collins employees Tim Drahos, senior environmental
specialist, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Brad Cronk, industrial engineer, and Lea Montross, team leader, production support, both
of Coralville, Iowa, accepted the award.
Rockwell Collins’ Coralville, Iowa, facility was recognized for implementing a new packaging process which eliminates air
emissions and solid and hazardous wastes associated with the previous foam packaging process. The new process utilizes two
thin sheets of elastic plastic that suspend the product in the air space of the box, providing a protective environment. The
packaging is reusable and 100% recyclable.
The EPA’s Pollution Prevention Program emphasizes the elimination or reduction of wastes at the source of generation. The
award program consists of five categories: General Pollution Prevention; Environmentally Preferable Products and Services;
Energy Efficient and Renewable/Alternative Energy Sources; Community Pollution Prevention; and Pollution Prevention for Environmental
