Norwegian Air Shuttle selects Rockwell Collins avionics for Boeing fleet
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 02, 2008) - Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA has selected Rockwell Collins to provide avionics for 42 Boeing 737NG aircraft with an option for
an additional 42 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2009.
"As a leading European low-cost carrier, Norwegian Air Shuttle required an avionics solution that delivers proven reliability,
enhanced efficiency and maximum value to their fleet of 737 aircraft," said Jeff Standerski, vice president and general manager
of Air Transport Systems for Rockwell Collins. "We're pleased that we could work closely with the airline to deliver a complete
package that meets all these requirements, while also delivering some of the most advanced avionics technology available."
Rockwell Collins' award-winning WXR-2100 MultiScan Hazard Detection™ System is among the avionics selected by Norwegian Air
Shuttle. MultiScan is the first and only radar that analyzes and determines actual weather hazards, not simply atmospheric
moisture content. MultiScan is a fully automatic, hands-free airborne radar system with more than four years of operational
experience that reduces pilot workload and enhances safety and passenger comfort by minimizing unexpected turbulence encounters,
and provides optimal clutter-free weather detection from the nose of the aircraft to 320 nautical miles.
"This equipment represents a huge step in radar technology and is a modern and future oriented choice for us. With this system
we will further increase flight safety and the passengers' comfort in connection with flights in bad weather," said Norwegian
Air Shuttle Director of Flight Operations Tomas Hesthammer.
The suite of avionics selected by Norwegian Air Shuttle also includes: Automatic Direction Finder ADF-900, Direction Finding
Antenna DFA-901, Distance Measuring Equipment DME-900, High Frequency Data Radio HFS-900D, Coupling Unit CPL-920D, GPS Landing
Unit GLU-925, Passenger Address Unit PAU-700, Low-range Radio Altimeter LRA-900, Very High Frequency Transceiver VHF-2100,
VHF Omnidirectional Range/Marker Beacon Receiver VOR-900 and the Traffic Alert Collision Avoidance System.
